GREAT FALLS, MD

Set against the wooded landscape of Great Falls, this residence was designed for a couple from Jaipur, India, as a dialogue between heritage and contemporary American living. The interiors draw from the color, ornament, and craftsmanship associated with Jaipur, translating those references into a quieter, more tailored expression suited to the home’s architecture. A palette of dusty mauve, muted slate blue, warm ivory, mustard, aged brass, and richly veined stone unfolds throughout the residence. Rather than relying on overt motifs, Jaipur’s influence appears through layered textiles, delicate tassel details, floral and geometric patterns, carved forms, collected objects, and subtle references to the city’s historic palaces and painted architecture. Traditional architectural elements—including paneled walls, detailed millwork, crown molding, and a classical fireplace—are balanced by streamlined furnishings and restrained contemporary artwork. In the kitchen, soft blue-gray cabinetry, warm metal accents, sculptural pendants, and dramatically veined marble create a refined focal point, while the dining room takes on a more immersive quality through enveloping mauve plaster walls and vintage-inspired lighting. The result is a home that feels collected rather than decorated—layered with memory and cultural reference while remaining calm, sophisticated, and distinctly contemporary. It is an interpretation of Jaipur not through replication, but through color, material, proportion, and atmosphere, creating a residence that feels deeply personal to its owners and grounded in its Great Falls setting.
